How much time do you spend in the shower each week?
Chlorine is commonly used to disinfect tap water and control harmful microorganisms. This treatment can also leave a noticeable smell, and disinfection by-products are one reason water quality is monitored.

Water quality can matter to the comfort of sensitive skin. A vitamin C shower filter is designed to reduce chlorine in the water you wash with.
The vitamin C cartridge neutralises chlorine in shower water, helping make washing feel more comfortable for skin and hair.
One filter is fitted in the shower head and lasts approximately two months.

How does it work?
One gram of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) neutralises approximately 1 mg/L of chlorine in 380 litres of water.
The reaction is rapid. Tikkanen and others (2001) describe the reaction between ascorbic acid and chlorine as follows:
C5H5O5CH2OH + HOCL → C5H3O5CH2OH + HCl + H2O
Ascorbic acid + hypochlorous acid → dehydroascorbic acid + hydrochloric acid + water
Approximately 2.5 parts ascorbic acid are needed to neutralise one part chlorine. As ascorbic acid is mildly acidic, treatment may slightly lower the pH of water with low alkalinity.
